Children of War: A Story of Survival and Unity in the Face of Conflict In the midst of World War I, on the beautiful island of Crete, a young Muslim boy named Hassanakis is growing up with his family. For fifteen generations, his family has lived on the island, and Hassanakis has never had any reason to doubt his Cretan identity. However, as the Great Powers tussle over the collapsing Ottoman Empire and the island's Christians rise in rebellion, ethnic violence forces his family to flee to the Cretan City of Chania. Amidst the chaos, Hassanakis begins to lay down roots and his stylish dress earns him the nickname "Hassan the Mirror. " As World War I draws to a close and the Turkish War of Independence rages on, he embarks on a heady romance with the elegant Hsniye. But rumors circulate that the Cretan Muslims will be sent to Turkey, leaving Hassanakis questioning whether he will be forced to leave the only home he knows, where he speaks little of the language and knows no one.

Savaşın Çocukları: Çatışma Karşısında Hayatta Kalma ve Birlik Hikayesi I. Dünya Savaşı'nın ortasında, Hassanakis adında genç bir Müslüman çocuk, güzel Girit adasında ailesiyle birlikte büyür. On beş kuşak boyunca ailesi adada yaşadı ve Hassanakis'in Giritli kimliğinden şüphe etmek için hiçbir nedeni yoktu.
