Vagrancy in English Culture and Society, 1650-1750: Cultures of Early Modern Europe Introduction: In this book, I explore the concept of vagrancy in early modern England and its Atlantic world, spanning from 1650 to 1750. This period saw the rise of a new kind of poverty, one that was not just economic but also social and cultural. The very poorest and most marginalized members of society, including the outcasts, the wandering destitute, the disabled, veterans, the aged laborers, and pregnant women on the road, are all examined in this comprehensive account of vagrancy. By using a rich array of archival and literary sources, I provide a history not only of the experiences of vagrants themselves but also of how the "better sort" perceived vagrancy, as represented in popular and elite literature as a shadowy underworld of dissembling rogues, gypsies, and pedlars. These representations had a profound impact on the lives of vagrants, shaping their experiences and interactions with society.

Vagrancy in English Culture and Society, 1650-1750: Cultures of Early Modern Europe Giriş: Bu kitapta, erken modern İngiltere ve onun Atlantik dünyasındaki serserilik kavramını 1650'dan 1750'e kadar inceliyorum.
