The Reader's Bible: A Narrative Approach As we delve into the pages of The Reader's Bible, we embark on an extraordinary journey through the unfolding revelation of God to humanity, spanning across both the Old and New Testaments. This unique approach to understanding the Bible presents a coherent story that weaves together the diverse subplots, monologues, and reflections into a single narrative, allowing us to follow chronologically the main events and significant asides. With introductory and explanatory material providing context and background information, we progress from book to book and chapter to chapter, much like reading a novel. In the opening of Genesis, we witness the creation of the universe and the birth of humanity, where harmony and balance reign supreme when God's primacy is acknowledged. However, as humans stray from this divine order, chaos ensues, and we find ourselves in a wilderness rather than a garden. God's focus shifts from creating a righteous and peaceful order for all humanity to concentrating on one segment – the race of Abraham – to develop a conception of human personality and community that can serve as a model for all individuals. Throughout the biblical accounts, we encounter miraculous entrances of God onto the stage, inviting us to look within and beyond them to gain insight into both God and human nature.
