Brothers in Arms: Real War, True Friends, Unlikely Heroes In the scorching heat of July 2009, Geraint "Gez" Jones sat in Camp Bastion, Afghanistan, surrounded by his closest friends and fellow junior non-commissioned officers (NCOs) - Danny, Jay, Toby, and Jake. They were all part of 3 Platoon, a mixed group of soldiers who had been deployed to the dusty plains of Musa Qala. The Jackal vehicle left outside their tent was a constant reminder of the ever-present threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), which would soon become a harsh reality for the group. As they ventured out on patrol, the bombs they uncovered one day were replaced by the next, leaving them with a sense of futility and an endless cycle of violence. Gez began to question the purpose of it all, as death and injury started to take their toll on the group. Their experiences in Afghanistan were a rollercoaster of adrenaline-fueled highs and devastating lows. From the intense firefights that left them breathless to the mundane tasks of clearing IEDs, the men of 3 Platoon were pushed to their limits.
Brothers in Arms: Real War, True Friends, Unlikely Heroes
