The main character, a young man named Artyom, discovers that he has been chosen to be the first human to be transferred into a cybernetic body, which will allow him to live forever and gain incredible powers. However, he soon realizes that this new form of life comes at a great cost, as the world around him becomes increasingly dehumanized and alienated from his own humanity. As he struggles to come to terms with his new existence, he must also confront the possibility of a global catastrophe that threatens to destroy all life on Earth. The book is divided into four parts, each of which explores a different aspect of the technological evolution of human society.
