Book Description: Chaotic Metaheuristic Algorithms for Optimal Design of Structures Ali Kaveh, Hossein Yousefpoor 2024 349 Springer Summary: In this book, the author explores the use of chaotic maps in eleven well-known metaheuristics to achieve significant improvements in optimization results. The two basic steps of metaheuristic algorithms - exploration and exploitation - are examined, and the imbalance between these stages is identified as a major cause of immature convergence and getting stuck in local optima. To overcome this issue, the author proposes the integration of chaos maps with chaotic jumps into the algorithm, leading to improved convergence towards global optima. The book presents three efficient scenarios for embedding chaos maps, including exploration, exploitation, or both simultaneously. These scenarios create competition among different modes, increasing diversity in the search space and preventing the algorithm from becoming trapped in local optima. The author develops four chaotic algorithms, including the Chaotic Cyclical Parthenogenesis Algorithm, Chaotic Water Evaporation Optimization, Chaotic TugofWar Optimization, and Chaotic Thermal Exchange Optimization, and applies them to structural design optimization problems.
