Women and the Rise of Nutrition Science in Interwar Britain and British Africa: A Study of Economics, Gender, and Empire In the aftermath of the Great Depression, the world was facing a dual challenge of economic recovery and nutritional improvement, while simultaneously grappling with the decline of the British Empire in Africa. Despite the abundance of historical studies on science, medicine, and the British Empire, the field of nutrition science has received relatively little attention. This book aims to fill this gap by exploring the role of nutrition science in the interwar period, specifically how it impacted women in both Britain and its colonies. The story begins in the 1920s and 30s, when widespread malnutrition posed a pressing question about the responsibility of the British state towards its citizens and subjects, especially women who bore the brunt of the struggle to access nutritious food. As the new science of nutrition swept the globe, imperial Britain took the lead, importing more colonial goods at cheaper prices to feed metropolitan Britons on the back of the colonial empire, particularly in Africa.
Women and the Rise of Nutrition Science in Interwar Britain and British Africa: A Study of Economics, Gender, and Empire

Women and the Rise of Nutrition Science in Interwar Britain and British Africa: A Study of Economics, Gender, and Empire (Kadınlar ve Savaş Arası Britanya ve Britanya Afrikası'nda Beslenme Biliminin Yükselişi: Ekonomi, Toplumsal Cinsiyet ve İmparatorluk Üzerine Bir Çalışma) Büyük Buhran sonrasında dünya, ekonomik iyileşme ve gelişmiş beslenme gibi ikiz zorluklarla karşı karşıya kalırken, Afrika'daki Britanya İmparatorluğu'nun çöküşüyle de boğuşuyordu.
