I Wish I Were Engulfed in Flames: My Insane Life Raising Two Boys with Autism As I sit here, typing away on my computer, surrounded by piles of papers, books, and toys, I can't help but think about the insanity that is my life. My name is Jeni Decker, and I am five feet nothing and one hundred and [redacted] pounds, a self-described roly-poly fortysomething with a heart of gold and a tongue that always seems to land me in trouble. I have two sons with autism, Jake and Jaxson, who are like two opposite ends of the spectrum, and a husband who prefers hunting to household chores. Oh, and let's not forget our Australian Shepherd named Sugar and our albino frog named Humbert Humbert. This is my story, a brash and sometimes shocking memoir of one woman's determination to raise two healthy kids with autism and keep her sanity in the process. It's not always easy, let me tell you. Between poop incidents, temper tantrums, and the helpful advice from my fellow citizens in the grocery store, I often find myself wanting to throw something. But, as any good mother would do, I push through the chaos and keep on going. With chapters like "Tickling the Weiner: Why I Hate Pokemon" and "Santa, Give it a Friggin' Rest Already this book is full of laughter and inspiration for anyone looking for a good read. As a mother of two boys with autism, I've had to develop a new normal for myself and my family.
