Miscegenation and Making Race in America: A Cultural Studies Perspective In the years following the American Revolution, the debate over black political rights reached new heights, with descriptions and pictorial representations of white-black unions proliferating in the North. Novelists, short story writers, poets, journalists, and political cartoonists imagined that political equality would be followed by widespread interracial sex and marriage, though these unions were deemed legally possible yet socially unthinkable. This perceived union between whites and blacks was depicted as perverse, with the latter figure as ugly, animal-like, and foul-smelling. In her book, "Miscegenation and Making Race in America Elise Lemire delves into literary and visual depictions to explore the connection between the racialization of desire and the social construction of race. Previous studies on the prohibition of interracial sex and marriage in the US have focused on either the slave South or the post-Reconstruction period.
Miscegenation and Making Race in America: A Cultural Studies Perspective
Miscegenation and Making Race in America: A Cultural Studies Perspection Miscegenation and Making Race in America,
Miscegenation and Making Race in America: A Cultural Studies Perspective: A Cultural Studies Perspective Amerikan Devrimi'ni takip eden yıllarda, siyah politik haklar konusundaki tartışmalar, Kuzey'de yayılan beyaz-siyah sendikaların açıklamaları ve resimsel temsilleriyle yeni boyutlara ulaştı.
Miscegenation and Making Race in America: A Cultural Studies Perspective
