Enhancing BioWatch Capabilities Through Technology and Collaboration: A Necessary Step for Human Survival The Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) BioWatch program has been a crucial component of the nation's biodefense strategy since its inception in 2003. The program aims to provide an early indication of an aerosolized biological weapon attack, which is a significant threat to national security and public health. However, the current technology used in the program, Generation 2 (Gen 2), has several limitations that hinder its effectiveness. To address these limitations and enhance the program's capabilities, DHS pursued the development of a next-generation autonomous detection technology, known as Generation 3 (Gen 3).
